Who We Are
Austin Neuromuscular Center was established in 2015 as a premier comprehensive Neuromuscular center.
Our team provides expertise in neuromuscular and electrodiagnostic medicine. Our center is equipped with complete diagnostic tools needed to cover the breadth of neuromuscular diseases.
ALS CLINIC
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neuromuscular disease that requires treatment by different specialties to allow for holistic care of each patient. To accomplish this for our patients Austin Neuromuscular Center opened an ALS Clinic where the patient and their care takers can meet with each multidisciplinary specialty in one visit.
AUTONOMIC TESTING LAB
As part of our center’s vision to provide advanced diagnostic services, we added a comprehensive, state of the art autonomic testing laboratory. These testing modalities aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the autonomic nervous disorders. We are one of the only advanced autonomic labs in the nation.
BIOPSIES
An essential tool for some neuromuscular disease is muscle, nerve, or skin biopsies, which involve taking a small portion of tissue for diagnostic purposes. We perform these biopsies in our clinic under local anesthesia.
CLINICAL RESEARCH
There are some diseases in neuromuscular medicine that have limited treatment options available. We are committed to research and clinical advancement and recognized the need to establish the National Neuromuscular Research Institute, focusing on studies that give our patients opportunities for the most up to date therapies.
EMG/NCS
We perform EMG/NCS with additional expertise in single fiber EMG and EMG guided Botulinum Toxin Therapy.
INFUSION
One of the important and complicated therapies for several neuromuscular diseases is infusion therapy. Our in-office infusion center allows our patients to have this treatment in the safety of our clinic. Our providers are in house and available for any adverse reactions that may take place. This allows for a more comprehensive treatment plan for the patient.
PATHOLOGY
To protect the integrity of the sample and control the quality of this process Austin Neuromuscular Center established its own on-site CAP and CLIA certified pathology laboratory. As a board-certified neuromuscular pathologist Dr. Yessar Hussain is certified to read and report on each sample processed in our lab.
TEACHING
We are a teaching site for UT Austin Dell Medical School Students and residents of both the Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation programs.
